Take an educational walk along the circular trail at Skradinski buk in Krka National Park and find the questions about the relationships between mothers and their young in the animal world to win a prize
One of the common features shared by all living creatures on Earth is the creation of offspring. Whether they give birth to live young, or whether the young are hatched from eggs, caring for the offspring is the task of all parents, especially mothers. Spring is the season when numerous animal species have their young. Spring is also the time when we humans pay symbolic tribute to our own mothers and motherhood by celebrating Mother's Day.
In Croatia, Mother's Day is traditionally celebrated on the second Sunday in May, this year on 9 May. On this occasion, we would like to invite all families, and mothers with children, to visit Krka National Park, to spend their time relaxed in this protected natural area, getting to know all its treasures.
“Krka National Park is home to numerous animal species, some of which are endemic and some are even stenoendemic,” stated Nella Slavica, director the Public Institute of Krka National Park. She added, “Because of the 229 bird species here, Krka National Park is one of the most valuable ornithological areas in Europe. There are 43 species of dragonflies, nearly half of all species recorded in Croatia, and 17 species of bats, which is 48.6% of the total number of bat species in Croatia. The cave habitats throughout the park area are home to 239 species, including several that have been newly described to science”.
This Mother’s Day, six cards with interesting facts about the relationship between mothers and their young will be installed along the 1900 metre long circular trail at Skradinski buk. The final card will be available at the end of the circular trails, in the S3 souvenir shop in the ethno-village, which will provide the answers to all the questions, and where you can receive your symbolic prize. The cards are bilingual, in Croatian and English, and each is numbered, so visitors can see whether they have collected all the cards.
We joyfully await you at Krka National Park, and we wish all mothers a very happy Mother’s Day!
